Stop hunger with these strategies that stave off stomach growling
Slash calories and you will drop pounds. Seems simple, right? Just one problem: Your stomach inevitably stages a protest, rumbling until you give in. The reason, scientists say, is that when your body senses food is in short supply—even if you're restricting it on purpose—it goes on the offense, pumping out more of the hunger hormone ghrelin to coerce you to eat. But just because your gut is biologically anti-diet, it doesn't mean you're doomed to become a bottomless pit. Give these tricks a try, and before long your tummy won't just be quieter—it'll be a whole lot flatter too.
Hi nena: Thought you might be interested...Alex
I always thought that after age 50 it was a lost cause to try and lose weight and change my metabolism. At 243 pounds, I decided I would simply have to be happy the way I was. After numerous health problems and the realization that I wouldn't live long if I didn't lose weight, I embarked, along with my doctor's help, on a weight loss program (no surgery). Now at age 52 (53 next month), I am happy to report that I keep my weight between 130-136 pounds, exercise three times a week at Curves, can wear size 6, and still eat six times a day. Clearly, eating smaller portions more often is the key; also, I had to come to terms with my food addictions and eliminate those "trigger foods" permanently. Some of the hunger-curbing tips listed in the article are tricks that I use and will continue to use. The one key factor for me is the realization that I have made a lifestyle change, not gone on some quick-fix, temporary diet. After nearly 47 years of battling food addictions and roller coaster weight loss/weight gain, I know there have never been nor will there ever be successful "quick fixes" for weight loss.
tks alot for all your great helpful ideas.

Squeeze lemon or lime juice on the exposed part of the avocado. Leave it in its shell and put in a baggie. That will keep it from turning brown for a little while. Also...just cut the brown part off if you don't want it. It's not bad for you, though. It's just a protective covering for the fruit.
Ok - I eat protein for breakfast (egg whites or LF yogurt)and within 1.5 - 2 hrs later I am sooooo hungry and my stomach is making such loud noises that my co-workers comment on it! No matter what I do - chew gum, drink endless water, etc. I cannot quiet that noise!! Here's the kicker...if I SKIP breakfast ENTIRELY I am FINE UNTIL LUNCH - no hunger pangs or noises. Can anyone relate or shed some light here? I've been this way most of my life (from teens on - and I'm 50 now). My 21 yr old son has the exact same thing!!
"Greaves suggests snacking on two tablespoons of natural peanut butter, an ounce of nuts, or a quarter of an avocado."
A quarter of an avocado? That's ridiculous. What am I supposed to do with the other 3/4 of the avocado afterwards? They go brown very quickly! Just eat a whole avocado but limit it to once or twice a week. :P
Why does the protein always have to be from an animal source? I find that I eat healthier and less during the day when I eat lots of fiber for breakfast (Kashi Autumn Wheat or a Thomas' Light English Muffin).
Oatmeal with 1/2 cup berries keeps me full until lunchtime (3-4 hours later).
These are great. I already do some of them, but it's good to learn the 'why', and new tips, too!
Yes eating lean protein will result in faster
weight loss but also watch out for a change in
pH levels in your stomach.
