I've struggling with my weight for a lone time I started jogging years back and I lost a lot of weight but my kids say I don't know how to jog, I'm missing the bounce, I cant seem to get out the same speed, any hints out there, thx Jogger 23
I see this posted frequently - that running on a treadmill is easier. This, in my oppinion, is just not true. Especially at this time of the year - when we are ice bound and stuck inside...
It takes a LOT of self discipline to stay on a treadmill watching the seconds tick by for a half hour, 45 minutes...an hour...hour and a half - running and doing speed training. Doing that outside is a breeze in the wind compared to next to the same pole or wherever it is inside. The distraction of scenery outside with fresh air buries inclines and those nice declines give a great pickup to our natural pace. Also - the ground allows us to lean forward because we aren't keeping up with a pace underneath us like a treadmill forces us to do. So, whomever came up with the "treadmill is easier" theory - mmmm...I'm not so sure about that. Maybe they haven't been to the gym on their off days substantially for long runs under flourescent lights???!
@jastone2 (There seems to be no way to PM you, so I'll post here and hope you see it.)
I used to live, and run, in Phoenix. I trained for Marine Corps boot camp out there: I did a LOT of night running. Run early in the morning before the sun has had time to scorch things, or later in the evening when the sun has at least set and isn't beating down on you. It is daunting to run in the day out there, but you can always switch up to treadmill on the 110 days, and alternate cycling and indoor elliptical etc to keep the legs (and cardio) going when its just TOO hot to run!
Just keep moving!!!!
I am 49yrs old, and I signed on to do a 1/2 marathon. I have never run before in my life. It was 4 months of training, weekly workouts, and team runs once a week. It was extremely hard to stay motivated, but what helped me was to keep my eyes on the goal. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
And there are days when you really just can not move. It happens, but don't let it be the norm, only the exception. Good Luck! Good Job! Be Healthy!!

This was very helpful as I am starting to run (just moved to Spokane from Phoenix, so now it's not so hot that I can't run!)
But now that I've been doing it for about a week and a half, I'm losing my motivation to go everday. How do I keep that up? Any advice would be appreicated!

How does running get you in shape?
I breath through my nose & noticed I get tired if I brath through my mouth.
